RW blogger, Pajamas media member, Allahpundit doesn't buy McCain's latest pathetic attempt at an attack ad.
It’s also a sequel of sorts to the "Pump" ad from a few days ago suggesting that Obama uniquely was somehow to blame for soaring gas prices; anyone who believes that will, I guess, also believe that he’d torpedo a visit to see wounded troops because there’d be no flashbulbs popping in his face. Not only does that not fit the facts — he left his pool reporters outside when he visited Walter Reed a few weeks ago, and as I noted last night, his spokesman says the plan at Landstuhl was to keep the press on the plane — but even under the worst assumptions, it makes no sense. If you think (and I do not) that Obama’s a sociopath who sees wounded soldiers as nothing but political chips to be played in an election card game, surely we can agree that he’s nevertheless savvy enough to grasp how horribly bad it would look to have photographers with him on a hospital visit in the middle of a campaign.
BLITZER: Why do you think [Maliki] said that 16 months is basically a pretty good timetable?
MCCAIN: He said it's a pretty good timetable based on conditions on the ground. I think it's a pretty good timetable, as we should -- or horizons for withdrawal.
MCCAIN: For him [Obama] to talk about dates for withdrawal, which basically is surrender in Iraq after we're succeeding so well is, I think, really inexcusable.
This story is saddening, jarring, shocking and well, i'll just block quote it...
Before he died Wednesday evening, death row inmate Dale Leo Bishop apologized to his victim's family, thanked America and urged people to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
"For those who oppose the death penalty and want to see it end, our best bet is to vote for Barack Obama because his supporters have been working behind the scenes to end this practice," Bishop said.
While Barack Obama is speaking about international affairs in Germany before thousands of fans tomorrow, John McCain will be talking about a pressing domestic issue with an equally striking if very different backdrop.
Weather permitting, McCain will helicopter from Louisiana to an oil rig in the Gulf Coast to make the case for expanded off-shore drilling, says a McCain aide.
The GOP nominee will be joined by a small press pool of reporters and photographers on a trek sure to offer memorable images.
This qualifies as Breaking since it probably isn't anywhere but Drudge right now, from the exclusive. It's also explosive in what it inserts into the debate.
An editorial written by Republican presidential hopeful McCain has been rejected by the NEW YORK TIMES -- less than a week after the paper published an essay written by Obama, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
'It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama's piece,' NYT Op-Ed editor David Shipley explained in an email late Friday to McCain's staff. 'I'm not going to be able to accept this piece as currently written.'
McCain is screaming Bias
A top McCain source claims the paper simply does not agree with the senator's Iraq policy, and wants him to change it, not "re-work the draft."
Details of the BURN below... including the actual reason why it didn't run.
Three national polls came out today, all snapshot, and all three show Obama essentially up 7-8%... That would mean that Obama's national lead is increasing a bit from the June median of 5-6%...
However, lets what the Media do backflips to try and explain away this good news for Obama...
What good are National polls so many months ahead of the election.... a very odd thing has happened this week. Rasmussen and Gallup have Flipped essentially, with Rasmussen showing the race 47% Obama, 46% McCain for the first time in ages. Gallup meanwhile has Obama at a significant lead of 48%, 42%. And Newsweek proved they simply can't be trusted, and after reweighing their Party ID, show Obama dropping to +3 from +15 all the while laughably asking in the right up what happened (You weighed your poll weird Newsweek!)...
The poll that has my eye this morning is a breaking RS2000 Poll of Missouri, a state that's been super tough for Obama by most recent surveys.
There is more than just FISA happening today... Unfortunate for Millions of Americans, John McCain's schedule today is full, and as a result, he'll likely destroy Medicare by playing hooky. Some have already blamed Bush for this problem, but the blame will now lie with McCain. This is a hard hitting campaign ad in the making... much more relevant and powerful than FISA.
With Democrats planning to bring the bill back up for a critical test vote Wednesday, they are now prepared to pinpoint McCain if they cannot advance a measure that doctors’ groups say is needed to ensure access is not cut to Medicare for the elderly and military veterans.
Rasmussen has new poll data out today which answers a big question here of late:
Why is Obama moving to the center?
Personally, I believe Obama isn't actually moving to the center. His centrist policies on display the last two weeks are not new policies but rather the moderate side of the candidate in full display. And today, Rasmussen shows that this message is actually breaking through. This is significant because while the topline numbers remain essentially unchanged in the head to head, the underlying dynamics are changing in a way that gives Obama sure footing heading into the high negatives season, potentially limiting the eventual impact of the coming 527/GOP/McCain negative onslaught.
The polling also may indicate that Obama's Centrism advertising is starting to pay off, while it runs head to head with McCain's Maverick/Pseudo-Enviro advertising.
Are these the first signs that Obama is winning the ad wars?
My guess is that Barack Obama and al-Maliki will have a good discussion later this month based upon this information. This is a big development in the ongoing relationship between the US and Iraq, and it's sure to be one that John McCain doesn't welcome, even though he's already planning on spending "Victory savings"...
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki raised the prospect on Monday of setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops as part of negotiations over a new security agreement with Washington.
"The current trend is to reach an agreement on a memorandum of understanding either for the departure of the forces or a memorandum of understanding to put a timetable on their withdrawal
Breaking tonight on Politico, this is how McCain plans to kick off his big Economic week, the spearhead of his new makeover effort... and as you can quickly see, he's now completely given control to the Rovian monkeys. And how he dances on this pin head without raising taxes, i'd love to see...
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to promise on Monday that he will balance the federal budget by the end of his first term by curbing wasteful spending and overhauling entitlement programs, including Social Security, his advisers told Politico.
The vow to take on Social Security puts McCain in a political danger zone that thwarted President Bush on the top domestic priority of his second term.
"In the long-term, the only way to keep the budget balanced is successful reform of the large spending pressures in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid," the McCain campaign says in a policy paper to be released Monday.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Straight Talk Express is officially the McBullshit Extreme.
If there weren't video, one couldn't make this sorta stuff up... if there were ever anything the DNC needs to get on the air, it's McCain's lies about being economically challenged.
enough already with the infighting and back biting over this and that on our side... you do realize that every diary, comment and talking point about the issue du-jour in resistance to Obama is an opening for John McCain to walk right on through and get away with literally advocating job expansions in Mexico and Columbia?
Phil Gramm opened his dirty stinking mouth to WSJ and went on record with what will be John McCain's defacto Economic Policy... in as many words, the WSJ endorses Gramm as McCain's Treasury Secretary, and well, that should strike the fear of God in any sane American.
On the fact that CEO's are Undpaid
Most of his former colleagues probably can't fathom why Wall Street bankers make tens of millions of dollars in salaries and bonuses each year. How would he justify these fat pay days? "It's simple," he lectures, sounding very much like the Texas A&M economics professor that he was in the 1970s: "In economics, we define labor exploitation as paying people less than their marginal value product. I recently told Ed Whitacre [former CEO of AT&T, who retired with a $158 million pay package] he was probably the most exploited worker in American history because he took Southwestern Bell, which was the smallest of the former Bell companies, and he turned it into the dominant phone company on earth. His severance package should have been billions."
I was very pleased to see that our Nominee Barack Obama will be making an unscheduled, unannouned visit to Walter Reed Medical Center Saturday in Washington, D.C. I don't think you can run for President without listening to the troops who've served and now rest, recovery in that Hospital, which Obama was instrumental in improving.
I was shocked, appauled, and horrified when I read this however about John McCain:
McCain’s visits are usually unannounced to the press, and sometimes he shows up without even giving the hospital notice. He tells friends it gives him a sense of peace and feeds his soul.
This is not a direct quote from McCain, but What the Fuck John.
The Heathers are no doubt snickering, but this is NOT how you respect our fallen soldiers, or how you respect the Military. This is utterly disgraceful and the campaign blogger in question, Michael Goldfarb, should be FIRED TODAY.
Let the blogger in question know he's an ass-hat: mgoldfarb@johnmccain.com
There is a big reason why Barack Obama will become President thanks to the millions of women voters around our Country; Barack Obama understands Women. He understands women's issues and he doesn't single issue or dumb down the talk. Case in point, Ben Smith's Reaction to Obama's talk this afternoon in New Mexico:
Interestingly, the talk -- to a "working women"-themed event in New Mexico, stays entirely on the economic issues, and doesn't touch abortion rights or other hot buttons.
And this is exactly why Obama is winning the Female Vote.
Reading through the new NY Time's Article detailing Obama's upcoming Ground Game and Fundraising, party unity is certainly on display in a good way.
Cooperation with Harold Ickes
But his aides were also considering buying another huge list with information on tens of millions of Americans. The list is owned by Catalist, a private concern co-founded by a longtime Democratic operative, Harold M. Ickes.
In an interview, Mr. Ickes said Mr. Obama’s campaign aides were particularly interested in new information his company had gathered about cable television viewing habits.
